Implants refer to the placement of metal inserts into the dental bone which bond to the bone by a process called osseointegration. A porcelain crown or bridge is then attached to the implant, providing a strong replacement for a missing tooth or teeth. In cases where there are no teeth in the mouth, a number of implants can be placed and a removeable denture can be retained by these implants.
Most dental practices refer their patients to oral surgeons for the placement of implants. Dr Papageorgiou has post graduate training and qualification in placing implants and is able to do this in house. This is obviously very handy as it represents a simpler process for the patient and often a better outcome as the person placing the implant is the same person who is placing the crown or bridge on the implants.
